Feed In Tariffs
Feed in Tariffs (or FIT) were introduced in April 2010, and it pays a set amount for every unit of electricity generated by eligible schemes. In order to claim the feed in tariff the system must be installed by an MCS accredited installer (Micro generation Certification Scheme).
Under FIT you are paid for all of the electricity that you generate regardless of whether you use it or export it back to the grid. If you use the electricity you generate you save the cost of buying that electricity from your supplier on top of the FIT paid. If you are not using the electricity you generate then your supplier will buy it from you.
The Feed in tariff is guaranteed for 25 years from the time you enter the scheme, it is index linked so will rise in line with inflation it is also Tax free for domestic installations under 4Kw.
